Some Ideas for WoW Questing
Written by Liam Jensen.
Getting sick and tired of constantly running back to your corpse? Or maybe you’re playing it safe, but still find it is taking you three or four hours to gain a single level, because you just can’t kill a mob without having to take a rest and regenerate health and mana? This article will give you some general pointers on how to reduce your leveling time!
It may seem obvious, but the biggest thing you can do to improve your leveling speed, even more-so than using a questing guide, is learning how to play your class. There is a LOT of information out there about leveling various classes; my blog even has a regular segment on leveling as different classes. So learn everything you can to make sure you are the right spec, and wearing the right kind of gear!
One thing a lot of people find themselves screwing up and doing while leveling is fighting mobs that are higher level than them. Even equal-level mobs aren’t really worth fighting! You get slightly more experience, sure, but these mobs are almost exponentially harder to fight; they have more health, hit harder, and are more likely to dodge/parry/be missed by your attacks! So stick to mobs that are lower level than you are; grind or instance a few levels if you have to.
Now, what is your biggest enemy when it comes to leveling? If you answered downtime, you’re right! Even powerful mobs can be defeated eventually, but if you are having to sit around and regain health after every fight you’re never going to get anything done. Other than carrying food and water, you should be doing other things to minimize downtime; use mana-efficient skills, use damage-reducing stuns and snares, and again, fight lower-level mobs.
One thing that can slow people down is being under-geared. Make sure you are wearing good gear for your level; you can get it from the auction house, quests, or instances, but don’t let your gear fall behind. (Speaking of instances, make sure to use the new Dungeon Finder system to do level-appropriate instances. They are great experience per hour AND provide amazing gear.)
On the topic of the AH: Don’t spend tons of time going to the city to buy or sell. Use an alt to do all your business. Just mail things back and forth, as long as they are on the same account the transfer is instant. This has the added benefit of making it convenient to sell EVERYTHING that is white quality or better on the AH, making you tons of gold to buy new stuff with.
